"When he woke up, and he started crying. You know, that was the best. My partner and I just, we teared up," said El Monte Police Officer Raul Vega, who helped save a choking boy.

California police officers saved the life of a choking 8-year-old boy who had stopped breathing for five minutes.

El Monte police officers responded to a call about a boy unable to breathe shortly after 8 p.m. June 3, KTTV-TV reports. The boy—Ethan Becerra, 8—was on his back with his eyes open when police arrived, according to Officer Raul Vega.

Once at the scene, Vega carried Ethan to his cruiser and began using a LifeVac device on the boy. Vega and another officer operated the device on the boy, who appears in body camera footage to start breathing again before medics load him into an ambulance.

"When he woke up, and he started crying. You know, that was the best. My partner and I just, we teared up," said Vega.
