Mass. State Police Trainee Accidentally Shoots Self in Leg

A Massachusetts State Police trainee suffered a wound that wasn't considered life-threatening after he accidentally shot himself during a training exercise at the academy in New Braintree.

A trainee at a Massachusetts State Police academy in New Braintree was injured Wednesday when he accidentally shot himself in the leg, according to police spokesman David Procopio.

The trainee, who was not named in the report, sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his leg during a training exercise, according to Procopio.

The trainee was alert when he was transported to an area hospital, according to Procopio. The incident will be investigated by the Massachusetts State Police Division of Standards and Training.

The Massachusetts State Police Academy where the incident took place is located on West Brookfield Road in New Braintree.
