Video: Fla. Police Officer Accidentally Shot by Colleague During Struggle

A Miami Beach police officer was accidentally shot in the leg by a fellow officer when the two officers were in an altercation with a possibly armed man on the Venetian Island Causeway.

A Miami Beach police officer was accidentally shot Saturday by a colleague during a struggle with a suspected armed man.

The incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. when Miami police issued an alert concerning a possibly armed man walking on the Venetian Island Causeway, the Miami Herald reports. Miami Beach police confronted the man, and an altercation broke out.

While the struggle ensued, a shot from the gun of one of the officers struck the second officer in the leg, according to WPLG-TV. The wounded officer was rushed to the hospital and was in stable condition.

Police detained the suspect, and he was taken to a medical facility for a mental health evaluation.
