Louisiana Sheriff's Deputy Shot, Wounded While Apprehending Suspect
TANGIPAHOA PARISH, Louisiana -- A Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputy was shot and wounded Monday while apprehending a suspect.
Two deputies responded to a residence around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning to arrest a suspect accused of committing a home invasion, according to WBRZ-TV.
Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto told reporters that a struggle ensued and one of the deputies was shot in the leg. Although the deputy was wounded, he and the other deputy managed to apprehend the suspect.
The deputy was hospitalized and later released.
"I am proud of the actions and bravery of our deputies this morning," Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards told reporters. “Our deputies are faced with split-second decisions and have to react in the appropriate manner.”
