Bodycam: Wash. Police Officer Slashed, Stabbed in Transit Center Ambush after Phony 9-1-1 Call

A man is facing felony assault charges after investigators say he lured Washington police to a transit center with a false 9-1-1 call late last year and slashed an officer's face with a knife.

The alleged ambush happened at around 12:30 p.m. Dec. 12 when Bellevue police responded to a report about two people fighting the Bellevue Transit Center, MyNorthwest.com reports. In body camera footage of the incident released this week, officers are seen talking with the suspect—identified as Mohamed Bangura—about the call he placed.

That's when Bangura is accused of pulling out a knife and lunging at police. He allegedly slashed an officer's face and then stabbed him twice in the back, according to KOMO-TV.

Another officer opened fire, and Bangura was struck multiple times. He was rushed to the hospital, treated and taken into custody.

The injured officer was taken to the hospital with a serious face laceration. A kitchen knife was recovered from the scene.

"The deliberateness of this attack, having lured police officers to his location by making a bogus 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident, demonstrated the lengths (Bangura) will go to injure others and extreme danger this defendant poses to the community," court documents stated, according to KOMO.

Bangura is charged with two counts of felony assault with deadly weapon enhancements. He pleaded not guilty on Jan. 6.
