Newly released body camera footage captured a violent encounter during a domestic disturbance last year that left an Indiana police officer stabbed and a suspect fatally shot.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the edited video Friday, and the department, along with the Indiana State Police, determined officers' use of force was necessary during the September 2025 incident and complied with protocols, WANE-TV. In January, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office ruled the officers' actions were justified.
The incident happened Sept. 22, 2025, when Fort Wayne police were called to an apartment building because of a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim, who said a man, identified as Jacob Lee Leckenby, was still inside her apartment after knocked down the door following an argument and attacked her.
While talking with victim, Leckenby opened the apartment door and charged at an officer. The suspect had a knife and stabbed an officer.
Police open fire, and Leckenby was struck multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The injured officer was rushed to the hospital. He was treated and released the week following the incident.
