The suspect was in a vehicle being pursued by officers and collided with multiple vehicles before getting out and running into an occupied home, according to a law enforcement source and witnesses. Some residents fled when the suspect entered the home.
Officers followed into the home and confronted the suspect, the source said, and that was followed by gunfire.
San Jose firefighters arrived at the scene to find “one patient in full arrest,” a term sometimes used for someone experiencing cardiac arrest, according to an emergency dispatch recording archived online. They also confirmed the wounded officer had been taken to an area hospital.
“The officer that has been injured has been transported,” a firefighter said in the recording.
There were no immediate reports of other injuries.
Police on Tuesday did not release any other details about the case, including the conditions of the officer and suspect.
“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” police said in the social media post.
