Texas Deputy among 3 Wounded when Gunman Opens Fire at Fair

Potter County sheriff's deputies seriously wounded a man accused of firing shots at the Tri-State Fair & Rodeo in Amarillo and injuring a deputy, an off-duty firefighter and a bystander.

A Texas sheriff's deputy was one of three people injured Monday when a gunman began shooting at a fair before he was seriously wounded by authorities.

The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. at the Tri-State Fair & Rodeo in Amarillo, KHOU-TV reports. According to Potter County Sheriff Brian Thomas, a man opened fire at deputies and an off-duty firefighter.

The shots struck and wounded the firefighter and a deputy, as well as bystander. Deputies returned fire and wounded the suspect.

The wounded were rushed to the hospital, and the first responders and the bystander are expected to recover. The alleged gunman, and his injuries were considered life-threatening.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
