Mich. Police Chief: Church Staff's 'Heroic Actions' Stop Mass Shooting
- A gunman in a tactical vest began shooting outside a large church in Wayne before a parishioner struck him with his vehicle and security staff returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect, police said.
Two police officers were injured in an exchange of gunfire with an armed individual during an early Tuesday shootout at Texas Tech University that left the suspect dead.
The shooting happened at about 12:45 a.m. when two Texas Tech University police officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle in a campus parking lot near Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, KTVT-TV reports. When the officers confronted the suspect, the individual drew a gun and began shooting.
Police returned fire, and the suspect was fatally shot. The two officers also were struck in the shootout, and they were rushed to the hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.
The shooting is under investigation.
