BURLESON, Texas -- The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is recognizing the actions of a 7-year-old child whose quick response helped save his 1-year-old brother following a near-drowning incident.

On June 21, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to an EMS assist on Ketron Road after reports of an unresponsive child found in a residential swimming pool. Upon arrival, emergency responders provided immediate lifesaving care. The child, identified as Liam, was stabilized by EMS personnel before being transported to Cook Children's Medical Center. Officials reported that he is expected to make a full recovery.

During the investigation, deputies learned that 7-year-old Patrick discovered his younger brother in the pool and immediately intervened. According to the sheriff’s office, Patrick removed the child from the water, alerted his mother, and ran to a nearby residence to seek additional assistance.

Authorities noted that Patrick’s actions occurred during a critical window in the emergency response, contributing to the chain of events that allowed first responders to provide timely care. The sheriff’s office stated that his response demonstrated awareness and urgency in a high-stress situation.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said Patrick has been nominated for a Sheriff’s Commendation Award. The nomination will be reviewed by the agency’s Awards Committee at its next meeting. If approved, he will be formally recognized with a commendation and pin.

Officials described the incident as an example of how rapid action, even from a child, can have a significant impact during emergencies. Deputies credited Patrick’s response as a contributing factor in the successful outcome.
