Video: Milwaukee Police Officer Injured After Fireworks Explode

  • Bystander video captured a firecracker exploding near a Milwaukee police officer responding to a crowd disturbance, sending the officer to the ground and appearing to leave her injured.

South Carolina police officers were attacked while trying to break up a Fourth of July block party after shots were fired and fights broke out.

The incident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday when North Charleston police received reports of gunfire and fireworks being shot at passing motorists during a permitted neighborhood block party, the department stated in a news release. After police were told at the scene that the people were firing guns, officers ended the event and told attendees to leave the area.

Instead of de-escalating the incident, multiple fights erupted, and more gunshots were fired. As police tried to break up skirmishes, officers were assaulted, and a bystander's video captured a violent attack.

Two female officers suffered minor injuries during the incident. Several people were arrested, and police recovered multiple firearms and a makeshift spear from the scene.

"Attacks on law enforcement are unacceptable and those responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," the department stated.

Police are asking anyone with information about the people involved in the shootings or other criminal activity via the department's Crimewatch app.
