Video: Milwaukee Police Officer Injured After Fireworks Explode

A Milwaukee police officer appeared to be injured when firecrackers exploded near her early Sunday, video shows.

The incident happened just after midnight as police were responding to a disturbance in a crowd in the city's entertainment district, WTMJ-TV reports. In bystander cellphone video footage, officers are seen running through a parking lot before fireworks explode on the pavement.

Following the explosions, one of the officers drops to the ground and puts her hands to her face. A bystander then walks over to check on her.

The fireworks incident happened hours before another Milwaukee police officer was injured after being struck by a fleeing suspect while responding to reports of gunfire. According to a police news release, the injured officer, along with other officers, opened fire at the suspect, who was wounded in the exchange.

Police later located the vehicle and the 18-year-old suspect, and two guns were found in the car and nearby. He was taken to the hospital and arrested. 

The injured officer also was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.
