A Massachusetts police officer and two good Samaritans rescued a trapped driver from a burning vehicle early Friday after a crash involving a disabled dump truck.

The fire erupted after a three‑vehicle collision around 2:30 a.m. along a highway in Easton, WCVB‑TV reports. Officer Dean Soucie arrived at the scene to find two cars engulfed in flames, and bystanders told him that a driver was still inside one of the burning vehicles.

Body camera footage shows Soucie and the bystanders breaking the driver’s window in order to pull the injured man to safety. The 78‑year‑old driver was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, but they weren't believed to be life‑threatening, according to police.

Investigators say the crash happened when a pickup truck rear-ended an unoccupied dump truck filled with snow and disabled on the roadside. The impact trapped the pickup driver, who was the only person inside the truck at the time.

Moments later, a car struck the rear of the pickup and immediately caught fire. Its driver, however, escaped without injury.

The roadway remained closed for several hours as officers investigated the crash scene.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
