The incident happened just after 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 when a woman in an SUV slammed into a tree, the Franklin Daily Journal reports. The front of the vehicle had caught fire by the time Bargersville police reached the crash scene

In recently body camera footage, Officers Cody St. John and Joshua Wheat moved quickly to rescue the woman. While one officer worked to extinguish the flames, the other officer tried to get the woman out of the SUV.

Obstacles inside the SUV created challenges, and the woman said she was in pain from injuries to her knee and ankle. Despite that, the officers were able to pull the woman to safety.

”This is a fine example of these officer’s commitment and dedication to keeping the citizens of our community safe and the selflessness with which they serve," the department stated in a social media post.
