A Nottoway County, Virginia Sheriff's deputy was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash while responding to a call Thursday morning.
Deputy Franklin Gregory Tanner was responding to a breaking and entering call on Cary Shop Road when the crash occurred around 10:40 a.m., according to WTVR.
The 25-year-old deputy was driving westbound in the 8500 block of Courthouse Road was responding to a call when he ran off the right side of the road in a curve, striking a stump before hitting a tree on the driver's side of the car.
The deputy had to be extricated from his patrol car and was flown to VCU Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
Officials say that Tanner has been with the department for two years.
The crash is currently under investigation.
