Maryland Sheriff Struck by Fire Truck

St. Mary's County Sheriff Tim Cameron was struck by a fire truck Wednesday morning while rendering aid to a driver after a crash.

The Sheriff of St. Mary's County, Maryland was injured after he was struck by a fire truck while assisting on the scene of a crash Wednesday morning.

Officials said that Sheriff Tim Cameron was rendering aid to a driver after wreck on Pin Cushion Road in Clements around 8:06 a.m. when a fire apparatus approached the scene and struck him.

Cameron was transported to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and was released a few hours later.

Officials said that while the sheriff does not have any broken bones, he did sustain multiple abrasions and was very sore.

In a news release from the department, Cameron thanked the community for "their thoughts and well-wishes for a speedy recovery."

This incident remains under investigation by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Team, along with the States Attorney's Office.

The female driver involved in the initial crash who Cameron was helping was flown to Prince George's County Shock Trauma.
