What to know

  • Vanderburgh County sheriff’s deputies used pepperballs to subdue a suspect accused of stealing a Bud Light tractor‑trailer and leading authorities on a multi‑county chase.
  • Body camera video captured the pursuit’s end, when the suspect allegedly steered the stolen semi into a deputy’s cruiser before crashing into a field.
  • The suspect was arrested after refusing to exit the truck and now faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and auto theft.

As deputies pursued the stolen tractor-trailer, another deputy deployed stop sticks in the vehicle's path. That's when the truck's driver steered the semi toward the deputy, crashing into his cruiser and leaving the deputy uninjured.

The tractor-trailer ended up in a field, but Baker refused to exit the cab of the truck. Finally, deputies deployed pepperballs, and Baker was taken into custody.

Baker suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital. He faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, auto theft and other counts.

The incident is under investigation.
