Indiana deputies needed to use pepperballs last month to subdue a suspect accused of stealing a beer truck then leading authorities on a chase before the man steered and crashed into a cruiser.

The incident happened just after 3 p.m. March 27 when Vanderburgh County sheriff's deputies received a report of a stolen Bud Light beer tractor-trailer out of Evansville, according to an agency news release. Once deputies located the stolen vehicle, they tried to pull it over, but the driver, identified as Randall Baker, wouldn't comply, kicking off a chase that entered Posey County.

A stolen Bud Light beer truck crashed into a Vanderburgh County, IN, sheriff's deputy's cruiser on March 27 following a chase.

As deputies pursued the stolen tractor-trailer, another deputy deployed stop sticks in the vehicle's path. That's when the truck's driver steered the semi toward the deputy, crashing into his cruiser and leaving the deputy uninjured.

The tractor-trailer ended up in a field, but Baker refused to exit the cab of the truck. Finally, deputies deployed pepperballs, and Baker was taken into custody.

A Vanderburgh County, IN, sheriff's deputy's cruiser suffered extensive damage after the driver of a stolen Bud Light beer truck allegedly steered and crashed into the vehicle during a March 27 chase.

Baker suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital. He faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, auto theft and other counts.

The incident is under investigation.
