Bodycam: N.Y. Police Officer Shot in Late-Night Confrontation 

  • A Rochester police officer was rushed to the hospital in a cruiser after being shot during a confrontation with an armed suspect, who later died from a self‑inflicted gunshot wound.

Newly released body camera footage captured Massachusetts police officers convincing a man to surrender after he held his wife hostage at knifepoint earlier this week.

Plymouth police responded to a call Tuesday in connection with a man allegedly breaking into his estranged wife's home, the department stated in a news release. When officers reached the home, they found a man barricaded inside and holding a knife to his wife's neck.

Police described the suspect as "extremely aggressive and volatile," and body camera footage showed him yelling from a balcony. He also could be seen brandishing a knife. 

Officers rescued four children still inside the home, taking them to a safe location. Police then tried to de-escalate the situation, negotiating with the suspect over the next 45 minutes. 

Finally, officers convinced the suspect to release the hostage. Once she was safely out of the home, police entered and took the suspect into custody without incident.

"Through communication and professionalism, officers were able to secure the safe release of the victim and take the suspect into custody without the use of force," the department stated. "This outcome reflects the restraint, training, and commitment of our officers to protecting the community."

The suspect faces multiple charges, including assualt with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping.
