Florida sheriff's officers rescued an injured woman after a violent carjacking with a 1-year-old child led to a fiery crash with another vehicle earlier this month.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, District 4 patrol officers responded a carjacking Feb. 8. Authorities said a suspect forcibly took a vehicle while a 1-year-old child remained in the back seat.

When officers located the stolen vehicle, they tried to make a traffic stop. Police said the suspect fled and crashed into another vehicle, causing a fire that left the other driver trapped inside the burning car.

Officer Almin Residovic ran toward the vehicle and found the driver still inside as flames spread. The woman's hair was on fire when Residovic pulled her from the vehicle, and the officer began administered first aid until medics arrived, according to the sheriff's office.

At the same time, another officer pulled the 1-year-old from the vehicle without injury. A 14-year-old occupant of the other vehicle was able to get to safety before officers arrived, authorities said.

Police arrested Richard Younger, 34, at the scene. He is charged with carjacking, leaving the scene of a crash without rendering aid, aggravated fleeing from law enforcement after a crash and false imprisonment of a child under 13 years of age.

The injured woman continues to recover, and she Residovic and the sheriff's office with their actions, according to the agency.
