That's when Ford pulled out a handgun and held it at his side. The sergeant then drew his weapon and pointed it at Ford.

As Ford began walking backwards, he raised his gun toward the sergeant and fired a shot. Missing the sergeant, the bullet struck a nearby building.

The sergeant returned fire, and Ford was struck. Officers inside the stop station rushed outside at the sound of gunfire.

The officers provided medical aid to Ford after handcuffing him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the sheriff's office, Ford would have been arrested for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer if he had survived.

Although the sergeant's bodycam captured the entire confrontation, audio can only be heard following the shooting. That's because the incident was unexpected, and the sergeant was only able to activate his bodycam so that it visually captured the encounter immediately.

The shooting is under investigation.
