It’s no secret that 5.11 Tactical is a legendary “player” in the law enforcement, outdoor sports and military fields. Recently I had opportunity to test a couple of their products aimed at outdoor and shooting sports. Here are my thoughts on the two products. (Hint: You can’t go wrong with 5.11.)

The Women's High Atlas Insulated Jacket

The High Atlas, Insulated Jacket by 5.11 Tactical does not disappoint. The jacket is thinner than some outdoor, rugged jackets made for winter. However, don't let the thinness fool you. I found this jacket to be much warmer than most winter jackets. Without the extra bulk you typically find in most winter jackets, it is easy to move around in and remains comfortable. The High Atlas Insulated Jacket also makes transitioning from frigid outdoor temperatures to going indoors comfortable.

I tested this jacket during a snow and ice storm. I was warm and never became too cold to stay out in the elements. Though I was out in extremely inclement weather, I stayed dry and protected from the ice and snow. The hood is a feature that helps keep the wearer warm. The hood was not cumbersome, and once up, I never had to adjust it. Part of why the hood works so well is that it is lined with an elastic binding. This jacket features Primaloft Gold Insulation and has a quilted pattern.

The pockets on this jacket will keep your hands warm, and there is an additional pocket in the interior of the jacket. There is also a reflective heat transfer on the upper back, so you can stay safe if you happen to be out in the dark. The jacket comes to the lower waist, offering protection while still allowing the wearer to have mobility.

Whether you are shoveling snow, on a hike, in training, or on the range, this jacket will keep you warm, dry, and comfortable so you can focus on the task at hand.

The Range Ready Pro Bag

The opportunity to review the Range Ready Pro Bag by 5.11 Tactical was nothing but a great experience. When it comes to finding a reliable and durable bag for range day, the Range Ready Pro Bag is an excellent choice. Not only can it hold everything you need for training or for a day at the range, but it also has four compartments, two large and two smaller, side-by-side sections that are all zippered. The zipper pulls are longer than most, so opening and securing your range bag is quick and efficient.

Each compartment has plenty of room and is lined with MOLLE. The two larger compartments have interior zippered pockets as well for extra space. These areas of the bag also have several elastic bands to hold magazines, and the interior of the bag is just as durable as the exterior. There is also another section under an outer flap that is another pocket secured with Velcro. The MOLLE, the Velcro, and the sturdy, elastic bands located in the interior of the larger compartments allow ample space for equipment while keeping all of your gear organized and secure.

The Range Ready Pro Bag is also weather-resistant and has a shoulder strap that is adjustable and may be removed if you would rather use the grab handle located at the top of the bag. The bag is 13 inches long, 9 inches in diameter, and 8.85 inches high. It also comes in several colors, so you can choose the one that matches your department's colors best.

Overall, it holds more gear than other range bags, making it ideal for a day at the range on or off-duty.
