Video: Waymo Self-Driving Car Blocks Emergency Vehicles During Deadly Texas Bar Shooting

First responders during a deadly shooting at a Texas bar that killed three were blocked by a Waymo car early Sunday.

A civilian shared video footage with KXAN-TV of the self-driving vehicle blocking a lane of traffic in Austin following a mass shooting at a bar that left three people dead and over a dozen injured. In the video, the car is seen stopped perpendicularly across a street, blocking a responding ambulance and other emergency vehicles.

"We left a club at 2 a.m. and were walking to get a ride home," Matthew Turnage told KXAN. "We just so happened to get a Waymo car from Uber, and when we found the car, it was trying to pick us up but got stuck in the middle of the street and blocked emergency vehicles for a couple of minutes."

Waymo did not immediately respond to KXAN request for a statement. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said officers and other first responders made it to the scene of the shooting quickly.

The shooting happened shortly before 2 a.m. when a gunman in an SUV opened fire at a group of patrons outside Buford's bar. The suspect then drove off, parked and continued firing after exiting his vehicle. 

Police confronted the suspect at an intersection, and fatally shot him. 

Federal investigators are looking into whether the attack was a response to strikes against Iran, according Bloomberg News. A Quran was apparently recovered from the vehicle, and the suspect was wearing a hooded sweatshirt “Property of Allah” on the front, the news outlet added.
