Nov. 15, 2023
Two people were arrested and a third suspect is being sought after two NYPD officers were violently assaulted when they told a group at a Bronx subway station to put out their cigarettes.

Two NYPD officers were viciously attacked by a group at a Bronx subway station Monday when they asked the members to stop smoking.

The assault happened at about 2:30 p.m. at a station in the Crotona Park neighborhood, WABC-TV reports. The officers approached a group of people who were smoking, and they asked them to put out their cigarettes.

When the smokers refused, the officers began taking them out of the station. That's when the smokers started brutally assaulting the officers.

Police arrested two suspects in the incident. A third suspect fled, and a search is ongoing.

The officers in the attack were treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to the New York Daily News.

The attack comes days after an NYPD lieutenant was savagely attacked when he confronted two knife-wielding men in Bronx subway station.
