A man accused of stealing money from a grocery store was found hiding on the building's second floor after security camera footage revealed his location and helped connect him to a second nearby break-in.

The 25-year-old suspect, Prince Kaka, was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, and resisting arrest after allegedly stealing money from the store's cash register.
Police later connected him to a second burglary at a nearby transitional house and added charges that included breaking and entering, larceny, and two counts of breaking into vehicles.

Police cruiser lights — Security video showed a burglary suspect becoming trapped inside a High Point grocery store and climbing to a second-floor area, where officers ultimately found and arrested him.

A weekend burglary investigation came to a quick end when surveillance footage revealed the suspect was stuck somewhere in the store, according to investigators in North Carolina.

The break-in was discovered around 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the Triangle Grocery on Hickory Chapel Road in High Point.

“The owner said someone took money from the cash register,” High Point police said in a Sept. 21 news release.

“Officers looked at security camera video from earlier in the morning and determined the suspect became trapped in a gated area before climbing up a drink cooler to reach the second floor. Officers found (the man) upstairs, behind a closed door.”

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Prince Kaka of High Point, was arrested him and charged him with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, and resisting arrest, officials said.

Additional charges were added after another break-in was discovered one-third of a mile west of the store, police said.

“At about 10:30 a.m. (Sunday), officers responded to a burglary at the Arthur Cassell Memorial Transitional House on True Lane. Video from security cameras shows a man climbing through a back window and walking around the office,” police said.

“Officers recognized the suspect as Kaka.”

He was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, and two counts of breaking or entering a motor vehicle, officials said. The two vehicles involved were parked outside the transitional house, officials said.

High Point is about a 75-mile drive northeast from uptown Charlotte.
