The Miami Police Department recently re-launched its intranet based crime mapping solution with some expanded capabilities. CrimeView® Web from the Omega Group was originally installed and configured in 2003 and displayed only CAD information on maps. When the entire suite of Motorola law enforcement products was installed and the system went live in 2006; CrimeView® Web was retooled to display not only CAD information but also information gathered by the Law Records Management System. This expanded data set greatly increased the number and types of searches that officers could perform instantly using only a Web browser.

Today, all Department staff can create and print their own crime analysis maps showing any or all crimes for any or all dates, times, or days of the week. CrimeView® Web is self updating so that the information available is always current to within four hours. Aerial photos were also integrated with the system and can be viewed when a user chooses or automatically when zooming into any area. New events and incident information can now be rapidly distributed throughout the organization without any additional meetings or memos. Accessing everything through a Web browser also eliminates the need for additional software on each officer's computer. CrimeView® Web will help Miami Police Department better serve the community with current and easily accessible information.

"CrimeView® Web is easy to use, and excellent assistance can be obtained by reviewing the "Help" tab when visiting the Web site."
- Devery Thumann, Information Systems Manager, Miami Police Department, May 2007
