Cell Phone Forensics 101 starts from the basics and provides a solid understanding and foundation of cell phone examinations.

BKForensics is now offering three-day hands on cell phone forensic training titled "Cell Phone Forensics 101". This course is not a "how to use software" training, but actual hands on training of cell phone technology and principles. Cell phone examinations span from seizure, live tracking, and network carrier subpoenas to logical and physical acquisition and analysis. Cell Phone Forensics 101 starts from the basics and provides a solid understanding and foundation of cell phone examinations. The lesson plan includes hands-on examinations of SIM cards and cell phones which will strengthen the attendees' knowledge in recovery of SMS messages, images and other valuable data contained within the cell phone.

  • Each attendee will receive hardware and software with a value of over $1,500.00. This foundation for a forensic tool kit includes:
  • Cell Phone Analyzer™, currently the only automated tool capable of interpreting cell phone flash files
  • Twister box with 50 cables to access over 200 phones
  • Infrared interface, MA-620 and phone suite software
  • Universal tool kit
  • Comprehensive class and reference manual

Prerequisites:
None, however a basic understanding of computers is beneficial.

  • Cellular technology
  • Cell Phone Networks
  • GSM Phone Network
  • SIM card architecture, file structure, cloning and analysis
  • IMEI, TAC (Type approval code), EIR (Equipment identity code) and more
  • First approach (Seizure of cell phone)
  • Acquisition and analysis overview of logical file structures and acquisition process)
  • Physical acquisition and analysis (overview of file physical structures and acquisition processes)
  • Middleware and Cell Phone Analyzer™ (interpreting flash files)
The Electronic Crimes Partnership Initiative is assisting with The National Institute of Justice and offering limited grant tuition for state and local law enforcement to attend this training. During the past 12 months this program has provided training and equipment to over 224 state and local officers at no cost to their agency. Travel, meals and lodging are not included with this grant.
