A recruit with the Denver Sheriff Department died Wednesday following a medical issue during a training session.

Dorbor Mulbah was participating in a physical training exercise Tuesday, and he "expressed discomfort and became unwell" after it, Sheriff Elias Diggins said in a statement, according to the Denver Post. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died a day later.

Mulbah had been training with the department since January. He was expected to graduate in May.

The incident is under investigation. "Wellness and mental health resources" are being provided for recruits and the academy staff.
