Veteran Ohio Police Sergeant Dies on Way Into Work

Parma Police Sgt. Nicholas M. Hunter, who had served in the Navy and been with the department since 1993, suffered a fatal medical emergency as he was heading into work.

An Ohio police officer died Tuesday after suffering a medical emergency while on his way into work.

Parma Police Sgt. Nicholas M. Hunter joined the department in April 1993 and was promoted to sergeant in 2003, according to the agency. He was the senior ranking sergeant in the department, and he earned multiple commendations during his career.

"He was well-liked by his subordinate officers, as well as his peers and supervisors," the department stated in an online post. "Sgt. Hunter will be greatly missed by all."

Before joining the department, Hunter served in the U.S. Navy for six years, according to the department. He was honorably discharged in 1990.
