Texas Police Officer Dies 3 Days after Shooting

Kingsville Senior Patrolman Sherman Benys Jr. died early Thursday after he was wounded during a domestic disturbance earlier in the week.

A Texas police officer died Thursday just three days after being shot during a call.

Kingsville Senior Patrolman Sherman Otto Benys Jr. responded to a domestic disturbance Monday, according to the department. During the call, he was suffered a gunshot wound.

Benys was taken to Christus Spohn Memorial Shoreline hospital in Corpus Christi, where he died early Thursday.

"Chief Ricardo Torres, the officers and staff of the Kingsville Police Department and the family of Patrolman Benys have been overwhelmed by the support of our law enforcement brothers and sisters, and the citizens of the region for their prayers, blood, and monetary donations," the department stated.

Benys was a 19-year law enforcement veteran. He is survived by his wife and three children.

The incident is under investigation, according to the department. Police arrested a 40-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting, KTVT-TV reports.
