Texas Police Officer Dies Days after Being Struck During Funeral Procession

Corpus Christi Police Officer Vicente Ortiz had working traffic control on his motorcycle during a May 21 funeral procession when he was struck by another vehicle.

A Texas police officer died from his injuries after he was struck during a funeral procession over a week ago.

Corpus Christi Police Officer Vicente Ortiz had been working traffic control on his motorcycle during a funeral procession on May 21 when he was struck by a vehicle, according to a department social media post. The department announced his death early June 1. 

"We mourn the loss of a great husband, father, son, brother, friend, and co-worker," the agency stated.

Ortiz was a 15-year veteran with the department, according to a GoFundMe campaign. He is survived by his wife and two children.
