A Virginia Sheriff's deputy died last week after suffering a medical emergency while on duty.
Cpl. Gibran Barclift fell ill and collapsed while working his shift early Aug. 16, according to WAVY-TV.
Deputies and jail medical staff responded quickly and worked to save the 39-year-old, but their attempts were unsuccessful. He was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Barclift joined the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office in 2002 and became a master deputy this past April before being promoted to corporal in July.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
