An officer with the Cherokee Indian Police Department in North Carolina died this week from complications stemming from an injury sustained in the line of duty.
Officer Anthony "Tony" Lossiah was pronounced dead at Mission Hospital in Asheville on Tuesday, according to a department news release.
"Tony will be sorely missed. I can't imagine what his wife, children, and family are feeling throughout this loss," Police Chief Ben Reed said in a statement. "Tony was certainly 'one of a kind' and I have enjoyed knowing him and working beside him."
Lossiah was a 17-year veteran of the force and served various capacities including patrol officer, juvenile officer, tribal complex security and child victim unit detective.
He is survived by his wife and children.
