Video: Teen Driver Swerves in Front of Fla. Police Officer Before Crashing, Fleeing

A teenage driver accused of reckless driving swerved in front of a Tampa police motorcycle officer, rear-ended a pickup truck and then sped away despite repeated commands to stop.

What to Know

  • A Tampa police officer conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 275 spotted a vehicle being driven recklessly and ordered the driver to pull over.
  • Before stopping, the vehicle swerved in front of the officer and rear-ended a pickup truck, then fled the scene despite the crash and the officer's commands.
  • The motorcycle officer did not pursue and instead broadcast a description of the vehicle and driver; other officers located the vehicle nearly an hour later and arrested the teenage driver, who faces one felony and three misdemeanor charges.

Before that could happen, the vehicle swerved in front of the officer and rear-ended a pickup truck. The officer pulled up to the side of the vehicle, which had its front driver-side door flung open from the crash impact, and again ordered the driver to stop.

Instead, the driver fled the scene.

In the video, the motorcycle officer is seen radioing a description of the vehicle and driver without giving chase. Nearly an hour later, the vehicle was located by other officers, and the teenage driver was taken into custody.

"For this teen driver, his reckless decision came with adult consequences: one felony and three misdemeanor charges," the department stated.
