A Florida police officer on a motorcycle faced a dangerous situation last month when a teen driver accused of reckless driving crashed into a vehicle in front of the officer before fleeing.

The incident happened shortly before 9 a.m. Aug. 26 when a Tampa police officer doing enhanced traffic enforcement encountered a vehicle traveling recklessly along Interstate 275, the department stated in social media post that included body camera footage. In the video, the officer says he pointed to the driver and ordered him to pull over.

Before that could happen, the vehicle swerved in front of the officer and rear-ended a pickup truck. The officer pulled up to the side of the vehicle, which had its front driver-side door flung open from the crash impact, and again ordered the driver to stop.

Instead, the driver fled the scene.

In the video, the motorcycle officer is seen radioing a description of the vehicle and driver without giving chase. Nearly an hour later, the vehicle was located by other officers, and the teenage driver was taken into custody.

"For this teen driver, his reckless decision came with adult consequences: one felony and three misdemeanor charges," the department stated.
