CHICAGO -- Motorola Solutions has completed its $1.5 billion acquisition of D-Fend Solutions, expanding the company’s counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) capabilities for public safety and enterprise customers.
D-Fend develops counter-drone technology designed to identify and mitigate unauthorized drone activity while reducing disruption to surrounding communications and operations.
D-Fend’s technology uses radio frequency (RF) cyber-takeover capabilities to take control of rogue drones and direct them to designated landing areas. The approach is intended to address drone threats without relying on jamming or kinetic force.
For law enforcement and other public safety agencies, the technology is designed to provide an additional option for managing unauthorized drones near sensitive locations. Motorola Solutions said the system can help operators assess threats and, where permitted, safely mitigate unauthorized aircraft.

D-Fend technology has been deployed at airports, critical infrastructure, stadiums, military bases and borders in more than 30 countries, according to Motorola Solutions.
Motorola Solutions said it plans to integrate D-Fend’s capabilities into its public safety ecosystem as part of an effort to provide air-to-ground security and situational awareness for front-line personnel.
Zohar Halachmi, D-Fend’s co-founder and CEO, will remain with the company and lead Motorola Solutions’ counter-drone platform as senior vice president of Counter-Drone Solutions.
