Meteorlogix launched MxInsight GIS Weather, an Internet-based weather data information system in GIS format. With MxInsight GIS Weather, current, forecasted and recent historical weather data is delivered to public safety professionals, enabling them to analyze it as they would any other layer within their GIS system. With MxInsight GIS Weather, public safety organizations can issue earlier alerts to specific people in locations that will immediately be affected by severe weather (alerts no longer need to go to the entire county), giving citizens and emergency response staff more time to prepare. With MxInsight GIS Weather, current weather data is easier to use for real-time monitoring and alerting. "Corridors" are provided for storms with tornado, hail and mesocyclone potential. These corridors are fan-shaped areas projected out for 60 minutes to show the likely path of the storm and color coded to reflect the type of severe weather they contain. Better forecast data is also provided in an easier-to-use format to support contingency planning ahead of severe weather. MxInsight GIS Weather is compatible with any GIS software product that supports a shape file format, including ArcMap, ArcIMS, ArcView and ArcSDE. MxInsight GIS Weather expands the data and capabilities of Meteorlogix's current MxInsight Metwork GIS product, providing a wider time window of weather information as well as availability over the Internet through ftp.
