BRADENTON, Florida -- Four Bradenton Police Department officers have been named the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund’s (NLEOMF) September 2026 Officers of the Month for rescuing a man from the Manatee River at night.
Sergeant Andres Perez and Officers Rosey Bautista, Michael Wall and Alexandra Fallacaro responded just before 9 p.m. to reports of a man calling for help in the river, according to NLEOMF. The officers could hear him but initially struggled to locate him in the darkness. Reports indicated the man had been in the water for at least an hour.
Officers enlisted a civilian boater to help search the river while others remained on shore, listening for the man’s voice. Once the man was located, officers aboard the boat reassured him and encouraged him to climb aboard.
After several minutes, the man was able to board the boat. Emergency medical personnel then transported him to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
“These officers demonstrated teamwork, quick thinking and a commitment to public safety in locating and rescuing a man in distress,” said Bill Alexander, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. “We are proud to recognize their actions and dedication to serving their community as the Officers of the Month for September.”
The Officers of the Month Award Program, sponsored by the Police Unity Tour, recognizes federal, state and local officers for exemplary law enforcement service.
