WASHINGTON -- The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund has named three New York City Police Department officers as Officers of the Month for November 2025 following their rescue of a distressed individual from the Hudson River.
In a Dec. 16 announcement from Washington, D.C., the organization recognized Police Officer Ankit Gupta, Police Officer Wilmer Guerrero and Police Officer Shuaibul Amine for their actions during an early November emergency response.
According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the officers responded to a call regarding a young female in distress. Upon arrival, they heard her calling for help from the water after she had jumped into the Hudson River.
Officer Guerrero immediately entered the river and brought the individual to shore. Officers Gupta and Amine assisted in removing her from the water and ensured she was transported to a hospital for further support.
The rescue underscores the operational demands placed on patrol officers responding to water-related emergencies, including rapid risk assessment, coordination under hazardous conditions and immediate lifesaving intervention. Incidents involving bodies of water require officers to balance personal safety with urgent rescue efforts, often before specialized units arrive.
“These officers are heroes, and their actions serve to highlight the countless acts of valor which often go unnoticed and without the recognition or fanfare such acts deserve,” said William Alexander, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. “We are humbled and proud to honor Officers Gupta, Guerrero and Amine as our Officers of the Month for November 2025.”
The Officer of the Month Award Program, sponsored by the Police Unity Tour, recognizes federal, state and local officers who distinguish themselves through exemplary service and devotion to duty.
For law enforcement agencies, such rescues highlight the importance of ongoing training in crisis response, water safety awareness and coordinated field operations, particularly in jurisdictions with significant waterfront areas.
