A Law Enforcement Officer’s Christmas Wish List

Explore practical gift ideas for officers and their families, from self-defense tools to everyday carry essentials.

Key Highlights

  • The Shield Arms DS-18 magazine adds three rounds to a flush-fitting Glock 19 magazine.
  • The TASER Pulse 2 and Bolt 2 offer personal-defense options designed for civilian consumers.
  • The PepperBall Blast launches OC powder as a compact self-defense tool.
  • The ASP PDK is a reversible-clip folding knife with a 3.5-inch blade.
  • The rechargeable ASP Tungsten-C flashlight delivers up to 600 lumens and charges via USB-C.

Each year as I contemplate what would go on a good officer’s wish list (because “bad” officers should only get coal in their stocking), I’m tempted to look back and see what I’ve listed before. It doesn’t make sense to repeat a wish does it? It does if I still haven’t gotten that item… but if I didn’t get it last year, I’m not likely to get it this year, right? I could always just go with whatever is on my Amazon wish list already, but that might not be law enforcement applicable. So, let’s go with this…

First up, the DS-18 magazine from Shield Arms. Since the Glock 19 is one of the most popular handguns in law enforcement for both on- and off-duty use, and since you can never have too many rounds of ammo, a magazine that gives you three more rounds and fits flush seems like an excellent idea to me. The DS-18 magazine is a metal body 18-round magazine that fits flush in the Glock 19. That’s three more rounds (20% more) than the standard 15-round mags. OR, if you’re feeling frisky, you can get the DS-20 rounds mags for your Glock 17. 20+1 in a standard duty handgun? Yes, please.

Next is the TASER Pulse 2 or Bolt 2 - either one would be good. Designed for the non-law enforcement consumer, one looking like a small gun, the other looking more like a TV remote control, these electronic control devices (ECDs) give you a defensive option that doesn’t require a permit to carry. Where the law enforcement TASER tools give a 5-second “ride,” the Pulse/Bolt gives a 30-second charge allowing the person deploying it that much time to get away from the criminal threat. This would be an excellent gift for the law enforcement professional’s spouse or college-aged children as well.

Along those same lines, I’m going to add the PepperBall Blast. What looks like a small collapsed baton actually is a launcher that delivers a strong dose of OC powder, more easily inhaled and just as immediately effective as OC Spray. An easy to carry and deploy self-defense tool that, at least temporarily, disables an attacker, giving the intended victim the upper hand.

And since I don’t believe anyone should ever leave their house without a knife and a flashlight, here are my desired items for each of those. The ASP PDK (Police Duty Knife) is an excellent assisted-opening locking folder with a 3.5” edge and comfortable grips. The pocket clip is easily reversible for carry on either side.

As for the flashlight, I think I’d go with the ASP Tungsten-C rechargeable. Pushing out up to 600 lumens, with an LED bulb and a rechargeable battery that you can use a common USB-C cord to charge, the Tungsten-C is durable enough to deliver when you really need it.

So… that’s this year’s Christmas Wish List. If you need my address to send me a gift, let me know!
