As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. After a 47-year run, Law Enforcement Technology is taking its final bow. This is LET’s final issue, as it will be combined with our sister publication Law Enforcement Product News and relaunched as OFFICER magazine, which will make its debut in January. While the name and packaging with be different, the content—and our mission—will remain the same. The entire staff of OFFICER Media Group is excited for what the New Year has in store and all of the features, training and insight into the industry that we can continue to provide to you, our reader.
The final issue of LET will include two firsts for the magazine. We are introducing both the Law Enforcement Design Awards and the Product Showcase—which takes the place of our annual Buyer’s Guide.
The 2020 Design Awards highlight the architectural feats achieved to create some of the most advanced and forward-thinking law enforcement facilities in the country. The Cincinnati Police Department—one of our Gold award winners—was focused on sustainability when it came to creating the District 3 Police Station. The designers employed energy conservation measures such as geo-exchange wells, solar arrays and an extremely tight building envelope. The end result was the first LEED Platinum, Net-Zero Energy police station in the world.
The 2020 Product Showcase highlights innovation from some of the biggest names in the industry including InVeris, FARO, FN, 5.11 Tactical, Axon, Motorola and Panasonic. We scoured our extensive collection of product listings, which can be found on Officer.com, to create a collection that we hope will help both guide you in making future department purchases as well as provide you with some holiday gift-giving ideas.
Also in this issue, Editorial Director Lt. Frank Borelli discusses our 2021 State of the Industry Survey. Leaders from the law enforcement community shared with us what they expect to see from the coming year in the way of growth, challenges and budgets and how the industry will be impacted by COVID-19, riots, protests and funding challenges.
In our Firearms Tactics column, Officer Linsey Bertomen (ret) talks about your health and physical fitness being your “backup to your backup” and details a high-intensity firearms training drill. With an eye on the future, Chief William Harvey (ret) discusses how the 2020 Census will be instrumental in budgets and operational scheme for law enforcement agencies over the next few years.
All of us at Officer Media Group hope you enjoy the final issue of LET as much as we did creating it, and wish you and yours safe holidays and a Happy New Year.
