State of the Industry 2023 Projection Survey
This year, as we have for the past seven years, OFFICER Media Group is running our State of the Industry 2023 Projection Survey. What makes this survey different and why does it say "2023?" You can go to many outlets in and around the law enforcement industry, and even quite a selection of commercial outlets that will offer you information on the "contemporary state of law enforcement." What you'll really get is information about the state of law enforcement from three years ago (or more). Chiefs, Sheriffs and other command staff members, and even supervisors and line officers in smaller agencies, have a good idea of what their budgets and agencies will look like in the next budget year. That's the information we try to get in this survey and we offer up a full report of the information, as mined from the data, before the end of this year.
For some agencies, the 2023 budget year started last month: they run July 1-June 30, year to year. For some agencies, the budget year starts October 1 to coincide with the federal budget year and make some accounting challenges a bit less so. Finally, for some agencies, the budget year will start January 1. Naturally, the answers we get in our survey are dependent on the veracity of the information offered and entered by those responding. Last year's survey received over 1,400 responses. The agencies that replied ran from less than five sworn officers in size to New York City Police Department with it's more than 30,000 officers. We reported on the information that impacts the industry surrounding law enforcement to include anticipated growth in strength, changes in fleets, changes in firearms and, if there were going to be budget cuts, where those cuts would be made in agency line items.
The survey is 56 questions long but only takes about 10 minutes to complete. The identifying information is held confidential and not sold to advertisers, marketers, etc. To receive a copy of the survey final report near the end of the year, you do need to enter a valid email address (personal or agency provided). We'd appreciate it if you'd take the short bit of time to help us make this year's projection survey our most complete yet.
