Fla. Police Officer Injured in Head-On Collision with Wrong-Way Driver

A 22-year-old driver drifted into the wrong lane and crashed head on into an Apopka police cruiser, sending the officer and 12-year-old girl inside the vehicle to the hospital.

A Florida police officer was injured early Thursday in a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver that caused the officer's vehicle to flip over.

The incident happened as an Apopka police officer was traveling east on a roadway and transporting a 12-year-old girl, WESH-TV reports. A 22-year-old driver was traveling west and drifted into the other, hitting the cruiser head on.

The officer and the girl were taken to the hospital, and the officer suffered minor injuries. Details concerning the extent of the girl's injuries and her condition were not immediately available.

The driver in the other vehicle also was rushed to the hospital and was in critical condition.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
