Woman Vandalizes 15 Iowa Police Cruisers During College Football Game

Sept. 29, 2023
Giada Morresi, a member of the Des Moines Transportation Safety Committee, is accused of vandalizing Iowa State Patrol and Story County Sheriff's Office vehicles during the Iowa-Iowa State football game in Ames.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly vandalizing over a dozen Iowa police cruisers during a college football game in Ames earlier this month.

The incident happened Sept. 9 when Iowa traveled to Jack Trice Stadium to battle Iowa State in its annual football game, KCCI-TV reports. Giada Morresi is accused of "scraping or keying" 15 Iowa State Patrol and Story County Sheriff's Office cruisers parked outside the stadium.

Morresi has been charged with eight counts of first-degree criminal mischief and seven counts of second-degree criminal mischief. The first-degree charges mean she caused damage over $10,000, while the second-degree charges indicate damage between $1,500 and $10,000.

A Des Moines resident, Morresi is a member of that city's Transportation Safety Committee. Des Moines officials are now reviewing her status.

“Giada Moressi is currently a member of the Transportation Safety Committee," Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie. "However, the City Council will thoroughly review recent events. It is important that our council appointees to boards, commissions and committees exemplify the values of the City of Des Moines and work towards the best interests of our residents, visitors and businesses.”
