Watch Police Chase Stolen Ohio School Bus across Multiple Ind. Counties

May 31, 2023
Police departments in two states were involved in a chase of a stolen Cincinnati-area school bus that lasted nearly an hour before ending in a Shelby County field.

A man is accused of stealing a school bus from the Cincinnati area and leading multiple police departments on a chase through multiple Indiana counties Tuesday.

Chad A. Murdock allegedly stole a Cincinnati-area school bus at around 10:15 a.m., WXIN-TV reports. The bus was tracked by Ohio police traveling in Ripley County near Batesville, and multiple police departments pursed the bus for nearly an hour.

That's where a Batesville police officer and two Indiana State Police troopers began pursuing the bus into Decatur County. Authorities tried to pull over Murdock, but he drove through yards and fields in an effort to escape.

Police finally boxed in the school bus—which was running on flat tires after a deflation device was deployed—in a Shelby County field. Murdock was arrested without incident.

Three police vehicles were damaged in collisions with the bus during the chase. No officers were injured in the incident.

Murdock was charged with criminal recklessness with a vehicle, resisting law enforcement and criminal mischief.
