A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper helping in a police chase involving suspects of an earlier shooting was injured in a crash in North Kansas City, a spokesman said.

The trooper suffered minor injuries in the crash that happened about 2 p.m. Wednesday at Armour Road/ Missouri 210 highway and Taney Street, said Sgt. Bill Lowe, a spokesman for the highway patrol in Kansas City.

The trooper was helping Kansas City police pursue a stolen Lexus. Inside were two suspects in a shooting that did not result in life-threatening injuries that occurred earlier Wednesday on Kansas City's east side.

Kansas City police officers had made it through the intersection safely. As the trooper approached with lights and sirens, a vehicle pulled out in front of him, Lowe said.

The two vehicles collided. The other driver was uninjured.

Meanwhile, the car being chased crashed into a ravine. A man and a woman were taken into custody.
