THOMASVILLE, Alabama — A Thomasville police officer was killed in a line-of-duty vehicle crash early Wednesday.

Officer Dallas Hinton, 25, died after his patrol vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler commercial truck at approximately 4:45 a.m., according to the Thomasville Police Department.

Both vehicles were traveling north on Highway 43 within the city limits of Thomasville. Officer Hinton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thomasville Fire and the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is leading the investigation into the crash.

According to the department, Hinton had served with the Thomasville Police Department for approximately two years. Prior to his law enforcement career, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged at the conclusion of his service.

Officials said Hinton is survived by his fiancé, two sisters, and his father.

The procession is expected to depart Mobile at approximately 10:30 or 11 a.m., traveling along Highway 43.
