A Georgia police officer suffered minor injuries, but he could've been hurt much worse when a tree blown down by Tropical Storm Helene fell on his cruiser early Friday.
The Clayton County police officer was driving home after his morning shift when the accident happened, the department stated in an online update. Tropical Storm Helene moved through the Atlanta area and northern Georgia, and at least four people have died in the state during the storm.
While he was headed home, a hardwood tree crashed down on his cruiser, totaling it. He was rushed to the hospital with only minor injuries.
“It’s truly a blessing that he wasn’t driving faster, as the tree could have landed directly on the cab," the department stated.
