An Indiana police officer was seriously injured when a tree fell on his cruiser last month.
Brooklyn Police Lt. Gannon Wood was traveling by an elementary school June 18 when a tree collapsed on his vehicle because of severe weather, the department stated in a social media post. A tree limb crashed through the driver's side window and struck Wood in the chest.
The lieutenant suffered multiple broken and fractured ribs, a ruptured spleen and a punctured lung. He was rushed to the hospital, where he spent eight days before being released.
The department praised first responders with getting Wood to a trauma center so quickly. Wood is now recovering at home.
