A Pittsburgh man is in custody following an attempted carjacking of a police officer in Braddock, Allegheny County, according to a story from WPXI.
Derek Lamont Moore, 33, is being charged with aggravated assault, assault of a law enforcement officer, disarming a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest, the news outlet said.
According to Allegheny County 9-1-1, first responders were called to the intersection of Sixth and Margaretta streets at 9:08 p.m. Tuesday.
The incident began with a fight, police said. When officers arrived, Moore fled. Officers then encountered him during a pursuit.
The “suspect somehow got into the passenger side of the police car and carjacked the officer that was driving, pushed her out of the car, and then attempted to run them over,” North Braddock Police Chief Isaac Daniele said to WPXI.
Two officers fired between four and six rounds at the police car to try to get the suspect to slow down, WPXI said.
The officer who was pushed out of the car was not injured, the news site said. As Moore was being taken into custody, police said he punched another North Braddock officer, who was taken to a hospital.
