Dec. 28, 2021
A 52-year-old woman was arrested and accused of colliding with a Phoenix police officer on a motorcycle and then driving off in an incident that was captured by surveillance cameras.
A Phoenix motorcycle officer was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident Monday, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the crash.
The incident happened at around 12:30 a.m. at a city intersection, KSAZ-TV reports. That's when a dark-colored minivan that was turning left collided with a Phoenix motorcycle officer and kept driving.
The officer—a 16-year veteran with the department's traffic bureau—was taken to the hospital with a severe leg injury from the collision. Once at the hospital, he required immediate surgery.
Surveillance camera footage in the area captured the crash and helped investigators identify the vehicle in the incident. Police arrested Elizabeth Eaton, 52, on Tuesday after officers discovering her vehicle parked in her backyard.
"The vehicle had damage matching the collision and other damage seen in the video surveillance footage," police said in a statement.
