A Roanoke police officer is in critical condition after a crash during a chase early Sunday, police said.
Roanoke police officers were conducting traffic enforcement along Texas 114 after numerous complaints involving motorcycles traveling at high speeds in the area while attending an event at Texas Motor Speedway, police said in a news release.
A motorcycle officer attempted to stop a motorcycle when the rider fled. During the pursuit, both the officer and the fleeing motorcyclist were involved in a crash with another vehicle on Texas 114, just west of Interstate 35W, police said.
The officer was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, according to police.
The motorcyclist is being treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained in the crash and was taken into custody, police said. Authorities have not shared further details about the charges faced.
“We ask that you keep our officer, his family, and the entire Roanoke Police Department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” police said in the release.
